The design section is equipped with hi-tech digital equipments. The prepress department will inspect the artwork supplied and provide in-house colour separations using a high-end system. It is then converted to a gravure print ready form, for cylinder engraving.
The steel cylinder in electroplated with a thin layer of copper. The cylinder rotates in a tank filled with copper sulphate solution. Copper is used to cover cylinders because it is soft and pliable, making it easy to engrave.
To prepare for engraving, the copper surface is polished. Polishing removes imperfections and smoothes out the cylinder. Polishing also adds roughness to the surface so it can retain the ink that will lubricate the cylinder.
The design is engraved on the copper cylinder with the help of a diamond tool. The cylinder rotates in an engraving machine, to process through high quality detail and counter sharpness.
Once the cylinder is engraved, it is clean coated with a final layer of chromium.
A technical content verification of the cylinder is then carried out via a proof press, which mimics an actual gravure printing press. It helps in reduction of production press downtime caused by cylinder problems.
The cylinder is then carefully packaged using protective packaging material before it’s placed into a wooden box for delivery to the customer. Delivery schedules at Technoplast Industries are strictly adhered to so that the product reaches your doorstep on time, every time.
